    By kmartinez | December 22, 2009

We have unique  gift ideas for all of the snowsport enthusiasts that you love (including you)! Give the gift of winter fun in the beautiful Rocky Mountains!

We conveniently offer our suggestions for the best gifts ever:

     1) Gift Certificate: We offer gift certificates, for any dollar amount, that can be applied to any purchase in our shop. That’s right, your lucky gift receiver can use the gift certificate for any rentals, merchandise,  or ski tunes. Our personalized gift certificates have a matching envelope. In addition, with a gift certificate purchase, you and your gift receiver will receive our exclusive VIP discount card which offers our largest discounts on daily rentals, merchandise and ski tunes, with no blackout periods, for the entire season.

    2) A Snowsport Helmet: We feel wearing helmets on the slopes is VERY important. Let your loved ones know how much you really love them with the gift of a helmet. We sell new helmets that fit every head and every style preference. Check out our article, “Helmets Get You Ahead” by clicking on the link to the left.

    3) A Seasonal Ski Rental: Consider the convenience and savings of renting  skis or snowboard equipment in the fall, keeping it for the season, and returning it next spring. For a low, one time charge, you can have peace of mind; no waiting, picking up equipment or risk of the shop running out of equipment. Seasonal rentals are appreciated by parents who don’t want to invest an arm and leg for junior equipment that the kids just grow out of in one season or less! For more information on seasonal rentals, click here.

    4) Ski and snowboard socks, hats, gloves, helmet liners, long underwear, sunglasses, goggles, ski pants, ski and boot bags and many other great gift ideas that help make huge successes on the slopes.

Come by and let us help you make your gift giving easy and meaningful!

    Winter Park 70 Years!

    By admin | November 19, 2009

One of our favorite places to ski is Winter Park.

This is the 70th season Winter Park, making it the longest continually running resort in Colorado. Congratulations!!!

They are currently showing an 18″ base. It looks like a snow storm will drop some new snow to get ready for Thanksgiving.

Get your “5th Graders Ski FREE” in Colorado Passport

    By kmartinez | August 23, 2009

You don’t need to be smarter than a 5th grader to figure out what a great deal this is! Colorado Ski Country USA provides every 5th Grader in the State of Colorado a passport that allows each kid to ski or ride 75 days for free this season. The passport works at 25 participating resorts in Colorado and you get coupons for equipment, lessons, lodging, etc. There are no strings attached to this deal, just our trade organization trying to promote snowsports to the next generation of skiers and riders.

They are not issuing passes for the 2009-2010 season yet, but you can be put on the list to be notified by email as soon as they start accepting applications:

    http://www.coloradoski.com/Passes/PassportProgram/

They ran out of passes last year so make sure you get your application in early this fall!  In previous years it took 2-3 weeks to receive the pass. We will keep you informed here as soon as we get more information and the the instructions and password for applying online.

Don’t Get “Cold Feet” For Winter Sports

    By kmartinez | August 22, 2009

If we could offer a simple formula for guaranteed success doing any snowsport, the formula would include the simple variable called Socks. Even though the technology and insulation has improved in downhill ski boots, snowboard boots and cross country ski boots, a good pair of socks is still essential. One pair of lightweight or medium weight socks works best for skiing, snowboarding or snowshoeing. Socks are made from a variety of materials, including polyester, silk and wool. Socks designed specifically for snow sports have wicking properties similar to thermal underwear, meaning your feet will stay drier and more comfortable. The most important thing to remember about socks is “DON’T WEAR COTTON!” Cotton does not wick, absorbs water, is not insulative and stays cold when it is wet.

There are many snowsport sock companies out there and we have tested and researched most of them. We offer for sale, versatile, warm, durable socks for all snowsports at a very reasonable price.

Notice to Air Travelers: Airlines Charging Big Fees for Checked Skis and Heavy Bags

    By kmartinez | November 18, 2008

If you have upcoming plans to travel with your snowsport equipment, note that there are big changes in the airline rules for oversized bags (like skis and snowboards) and heavy bags that perhaps contain ski boots and other equipment. It is important that you check with your airline (each airline is different) and understand the specific rules (dimensions, weights, quantities) for bags and the fees associated with them. For example, United Airlines now charges $175 EACH WAY to check a ski bag and $125 each way for an overweight bag. If you are traveling to Colorado, you may find that renting equipment (with us, hopefully!) is more cost effective than bringing your own equipment. With our new online reservation system you can easily reserve your equipment with us and enjoy a 20% discount off our regular prices.
