Summer is here and the snow is melting.  This time of year, I always like to reflect on the season as it comes to a close.  Whether it was Loveland opening earlier than it has in 40 years, your favorite Winter Olympic event, or the snow dumps we’ve gotten in March and April, the season will live on in memory and fuel us with excitement as next season starts peeking around the corner.  Time to start counting….. Only 164 more days!

I’d like to thank all of you for a fantastic season.  I’m touched by the overwhelming support I’ve received from everyone during my first season owning the shop.  While working here the past few years I’ve gotten to know a few of you well, and I am looking forward to continuing the commitment to great customer service you’ve come to expect from Crystal’s.  I understand there are a lot of choices for rentals, and I can’t thank you enough for choosing us.  I am already looking forward to serving you next year and for years to come.

This is the 70th season Winter Park, making it the longest continually running resort in Colorado. Congratulations!!!

They are currently showing an 18″ base. It looks like a snow storm will drop some new snow to get ready for Thanksgiving.

They are not issuing passes for the 2009-2010 season yet, but you can be put on the list to be notified by email as soon as they start accepting applications:

They ran out of passes last year so make sure you get your application in early this fall!  In previous years it took 2-3 weeks to receive the pass. We will keep you informed here as soon as we get more information and the the instructions and password for applying online.

If we could offer a simple formula for guaranteed success doing any snowsport, the formula would include the simple variable called Socks. Even though the technology and insulation has improved in downhill ski boots, snowboard boots and cross country ski boots, a good pair of socks is still essential. One pair of lightweight or medium weight socks works best for skiing, snowboarding or snowshoeing. Socks are made from a variety of materials, including polyester, silk and wool. Socks designed specifically for snow sports have wicking properties similar to thermal underwear, meaning your feet will stay drier and more comfortable. The most important thing to remember about socks is “DON’T WEAR COTTON!” Cotton does not wick, absorbs water, is not insulative and stays cold when it is wet.
